Value-based Decision Making
The primary driver behind the successes of gambling-led Brighton FC & Brentford FC is the consistency in decision-making from leadership. The core principles of the gambling industry translate seamlessly with those of any business determined to witness long-term growth, especially in one as volatile and dominated in 'noise' as football.
Evidence of long-term success in a related industry paints a picture of how these value-based decisions stimulate real-life growth. My trading record within my Spreadex career (£9.5m in trading revenues at 111% PPB) and professional gambling career (59.5% profit on stakes) evidences sustained strength in decision-making.
These core principles include:
Constant use of all data & information sources to minimize emotional bias from decision-making
Understanding of short-term variance and not allowing this to cloud judgement
Using empirical evidence to create strategy, rather than historic beliefs (age ≠ success)
360° Recruitment Process
Strategy Design & Implementation
Understanding & implementation of a 360° recruitment process ensures greater probability of a successful transfer. I have been witness to this at Brentford FC and have replicated this on two occasions, at AFC Wimbledon & Forest Green Rovers FC.
The core features include:
Implementing strategy pieces into the recruitment process
Identifying 'value' markets from which to recruit
Implementation of data processes to aid filtering process (real-time performance, physical, medical, character, financial)
Creating & managing comprehensive scouting department
Partnering with a betting syndicate
Creation of an in-house platform to provide long-term club solution, regardless of staffing
Player pathways, both from recruits and those under contract (including academy)
No business or sports club can achieve its goals without a clearly defined long-term strategy. Within football, all roads lead to the 'big 6' Premier League teams, and clear understanding of how to design a growth strategy, designed on maximising revenues on & off the field should be of primary importance to ownership groups.
My experiences at Spreadex evidenced my ability to design & aid business growth, but have also shown me 'what good looks like' from both a strategy and cultural perspective. I have been fortunate enough to witness this again within football, with Brentford FC.
During MSc Sports Directorship, my core focus was on strategy design & implementation and this was successfully evidenced during my time at AFC Wimbledon - a club for whom a growth strategy is essential given its ownership structure.
Will's thought processes, modern approach and varied experiences make him the perfect disruptor, critical thinker and specialist in his field.
Will & I worked closely together when Brentford and AFC Wimbledon had multiple successful loans between 2019 - 2022. We then worked as colleagues at FGR, during which time we collaborated to create a recruitment model that could be built robustly, and has all the foundations for sustained growth.

Will & I worked together over 20 years at Spreadex, during which time Will was one of a small group who oversaw a strategy & cultural development that helped make us the industry leader.
Will is a creative thinker who dares to do things differently, while he was trusted in the big moments to make the strong decisions for the good of the business.
